From Within the UK

By Car

Thornbury just off of the A38 and is close to the M4 and M5 motorways.

From the Midlands the North, you will approach Thornbury on the M5 southbound - come off at junction 14 (signed to Thornbury) and turn right at the end of the slip road. A short distance at the end of the road, turn left on to the A38 - there are several roads to the right which are signed to Thornbury that will take you to various parts of the town.

From London and the East, you will approach Thornbury on the M4 eastbound - come off at junction 20 (the M5) keeping in the left-hand lane, signed M5 southbound. Just before you join the M5, you need to take the slip road to the left (which is junction 16 of the M5) signed to Thornbury. At the end of the slip road, turn right at the roundabout onto the A38 signed to Thornbury. After around 5 miles there are several roads to the left which are signed to Thornbury that will take you to various parts of the town.

From South Wales, you will approach Thornbury on the M4 westbound. Your easiest option is to take junction 20 (the M5) following signs for M5 southbound. Just before you join the M5, you need to take the slip road to the left (which is junction 16 of the M5) signed to Thornbury. At the end of the slip road, turn right at the roundabout onto the A38 signed to Thornbury. After around 5 miles there are several roads to the left which are signed to Thornbury that will take you to various parts of the town.

From the South West, you will approach Thornbury on the M5 northbound. Come off at junction 16 signed to Thornbury. At the end of the slip road, turn right at the roundabout onto the A38 signed to Thornbury. After around 5 miles there are several roads to the left which are signed to Thornbury that will take you to various parts of the town.

By Air

There are several domestic services that operate from Bristol International Airport (including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Newcastle, Plymouth and Manchester). The airport is south of Bristol and is around 23 miles from Thornbury - you will either need a taxi or to use public transport - a regular bus service operates between the Airport and Bristol Temple Meads rail station.

By Public Transport

There are no rail stations in Thornbury, so buses and taxis are the only option to get in to the town. For rail, the most practical train stations are Bristol Parkway (around 8 miles away), and Bristol Temple Meads (around 12 miles away). The 312 bus run by South Gloucestershire Bus Company runs between Bristol Parkway and Thornbury, and the 309 and 310 run by First Group runs between the centre or Bristol and Thonbury. The 312 is less regular, but runs directly from Bristol Parkway - the 309 and 310 are more frequent, but to catch it you will need to get to Bristol Bus Station - around 30 minutes walk, a short taxi journey or a combination of bus and walking.

National Express and other operators run coaches to Bristol Bus Station from around the country. Coaches are convenient if you plan to use a bus for the rest of your journey.


From Abroad

Many domestic and European flights operate through Bristol International Airport. The airport is south of Bristol and is around 23 miles from Thornbury - you will either need a taxi or to use public transport - a regular bus service operates between the Airport and Bristol Temple Meads rail station.

For other international flights, you will probably be arriving at London Heathrow (around 110 miles / 175 Km from Thornbury) or London Gatwick (around 140 miles / 220 Km from Thornbury). Car hire might be your most convenient option, otherwise National Express operate coach services between these airports and Bristol.
